Windows 11: About monthly updates on your device
📢 Windows monthly update behaviour on your device
Your Windows 11 device is set to use the default update settings from Microsoft. This means:
- ✅ Updates will be downloaded and installed automatically by Windows.
- 🕒 Windows will try to install updates outside of your active hours to avoid disruptions.
- 🔄 If a restart is needed, you’ll get a notification and can schedule a time that works for you.
You don’t need to do anything—Windows will take care of updates in the background to help keep your device secure and up to date.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback please contact the IT Service Desk at IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk
Join the Early Adopters Programme
We’re looking for volunteers to join our Windows 11 Early Adopter Programme — a small community of colleagues who receive Microsoft monthly updates slightly ahead of wider rollout.
What’s involved?
- Early Adopter devices receive the updates 7 days ahead of wider rollout
- Participants continue using their device as normal and let us know if they spot any unexpected issues
By volunteering, you’ll help support a reliable, secure, and stable Windows 11 experience for colleagues across the University.
Software delivered through Software Centre is excluded, as it is managed through a separate assurance process. However, if you are unsure whether your software is suitable for inclusion, please submit the details and we will review and confirm whether it falls within the scope of the Early Adopter Programme.
